Our blender beauties!

June 27, 2019

Summer weather is on the horizon and that means that we'll be craving creamy cold smoothies more than ever (not that we don't enjoy them in the colder months as well!) :)

Our smoothies are

✓rich in important nutrients,

✓packed with fibre,

✓filled with antioxidants!! (that'll leave you with tons of energy!!)

✓plant-based (made with coconut water or almond milk), and

✓delicious, of course ;)

Good luck choosing your favourite!!

Fun fact: Did you know that some nutrients are only released when their cells are disrupted (e.g. by chewing the fibres of the food)... smoothies do the work for you and provide that food's nutrients in the most bioavailable form!

Here's a compilation of all of the smoothies on our menu and some of the benefits associated with their nutritious ingredients!

*Keep an eye out for special smoothie flavours, released throughout the year (some past favourites include our Pumpkin Spice smoothie, Peppermint Mocha smoothie, Gingerbread smoothie, Cookies n "Cream" smoothie, and our layered Sunrise smoothie)!

POWER GREEN

Spinach, cucumber, celery, romaine, parsley, mint, lemon juice, chia seeds, ginger, cinnamon, turmeric, coconut water, pear, banana

The tangy lemon, combined with the subtle banana, pear, mint, and hydrating cucumber, celery, and coconut water, make this an excellent refreshing smoothie for a hot day or after a sweaty workout!

Leafy green vegetables are packed with important and powerful nutrients that are critical for good health. Spinach is high in protein and other vitamins and minerals as well as enzyme coq10 which plays a role in strengthening the muscles functioning as an antioxidant. Romaine lettuce is high in minerals, such as calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, and potassium and vitamins, such as vitamin C, vitamin K, and folate.

Cucumber  is high in water content and promotes hydration (which is important for many important health functions: proper hydration helps to keep the digestive tract running smoothly, helps to prevent kidney stones, etc.). Cucumbers contain antioxidants, including flavonoids and tannins, which prevent the accumulation of harmful free radicals and may reduce the risk of chronic disease.

Celery Pectin-based polysaccharides in celery, including a compound known as apiuman, have been shown to decrease instances of stomach ulcers, improve the lining of the stomach, and modulate stomach secretions in animal studies. Its high water content plus generous amounts of soluble and insoluble fiber help to support a healthy digestive tract. Helps to alkalize the body.

Over the years, parsley has been used to treat conditions like high blood pressure, allergies, and inflammatory diseases. This detoxifying plant is rich in vitamin K, which is an essential nutrient for optimal bone health. Eating foods high in this nutrient has been linked to a reduced risk of fractures and improved bone mineral density.Parsley contains various antioxidants — like flavonoids and vitamin C — that may provide cancer-fighting benefits. Parsley contains lutein, zeaxanthin, and beta carotene, plant compounds that protect eye health and may reduce your risk of certain age-related eye conditions like AMD. Parsley is rich in folate, a B vitamin that protects your heart and may reduce your risk of heart disease.

Ginger, cinnamon, and turmeric warm the body and provide a healthy dose of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds.
